Japan Meteorological Agency issues earthquake alert for Hokkaido region following 5.3 magnitude tremor

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued an earthquake alert for the Hokkaido region, where a 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck today at approximately 5.47pm local time. The epicentre was located at N 42.3, E 143.1 with a depth of 50 kilometres. The seismic intensity scale registered the quake at 4 out of a maximum of 7.

According to reports from the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), following a recent 5.6 magnitude earthquake on 23rd May, another tremor measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit the southern part of the Tokachi region in Hokkaido.

Cities including Sapporo, Otaru, Obihiro, and Kushiro experienced a seismic intensity of 2. Despite the earthquake, there have been no reports of casualties or damages. However, concerned citizens have taken to social media to express worries about the frequency of recent tremors in the Tokachi region, emphasizing the importance of remaining vigilant.
