Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has officially announced his challenge to Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) in a bid for the US Senate. Paxton made the announcement on Laura Ingraham’s nightly news show on Fox.

Paxton said that it is “time for a change in Texas” and announced his bid to run against Cornyn, who he said has had a “lack of production” as a senator.

“We have another great US senator, Ted Cruz, and it’s time we have another great senator that will actually stand up and fight for Republican values, fight for the values of the people of Texas, and also support Donald Trump in the areas that he’s focused on in a very significant way,” Paxton added. “And that’s what I plan on doing.”

According to the Texas Scorecard, Paxton’s campaign will emphasize his record as Attorney General in the Lone Star State along with his over 100 lawsuits that he launched against the Biden administration.

His campaign website states, “As Texas’ 51st Attorney General, Ken Paxton has been on the front lines of the most important legal fights in the country. He’s sued the Biden administration over 100 times, standing up against open borders policies, government overreach, attacks on the Second Amendment, and the far-left’s radical agenda.”

Paxton, an ally of President Donald Trump, was impeached by the Texas House in 2023, but was later acquitted on all counts later that year. Cornyn as well as Paxton have taken aim at each other to some degree, with Paxton previously teasing that he was going to launch a bid to primary the incumbent senator.

Cornyn has served as a US senator since 2002. and was the Attorney General of Texas from 1999 to 2002.
